TRANSFORM YOUR WRITING

This book is a short story designed to help students and teachers of English language to become more aware of the types of sentences needed to improve generally and to get higher scores in tests such as IELTS, The Pearson Test of English Academic test, The Cambridge suite of tests, TOEFL and TOEIC etc. A higher level of English requires more complex sentences and more complex language.

The story is written to elicit a personal response from the readers, as this is a role of literature. It is not the kind of quasi-academic style as used in an IELTS test, for example. This is because English proficiency test takers need to read for pleasure outside the kind of topics used in academic essays. Also, there is an emphasis in the message on how and why to think critically, which is a helpful skill when thinking about essay questions.

If you want to improve your sentences, it is important to learn how to recognise and form complex sentences. This book helps you to do that by highlighting the 3 different types of dependent clauses in different colours and italicising the subordinating conjunctions as shown in some examples below:

Noun clause

[What I need to do] is read more.

I think [that you can achieve your goals].

Adverb Clause

[When I read more for pleasure], all my English skills will improve.

[If I put in the effort], I will reap the rewards.

I want to improve my language skills [because it will help me in the test].

Adjective (Relative) Clause

Paul, [who encouraged me to write this], has also written a book. I love doing lots of exercise, [which keeps me fit].

This story has been written at 3 levels of English using the levels described in the Lexical Resource (vocabulary) and Grammatical Range and Accuracy (grammar) section of the IELTS writing band descriptors public version:

Level 1 - band 6+ Level 2 - band 7+ Level 3 - band 8+

Instructions

1) Read level 1 and add brackets, highlight or underline the complex sentences

2) Turn the page, check your answers and notice the complex sentences.

3) Repeat for level 2 and 3 and notice how the sentences and vocabulary transform.

28 DAYS TO TRANSFORM YOUR VOCABULARY

Probably, vocabulary is the difference between your language skills and mine.

If there is only one thing you could do to improve your English, I highly suggest improving your vocabulary..... the right way!

What is 28 Days to Transform Your Vocabulary?

It is the program we created to help our students improve their vocabulary in order to get higher scores on tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, and TOEIC, etc. However, our students who were not doing those tests wanted to use the book as well. Of course, they did..... every student wants to improve their vocabulary, just like I imagine you do.

What is included?

It's covers the same common topics as our first product, Focused Listening, and they go together very well. You will find 24 topics + 4 academic word lists topics. In each unit, you will find 2 X Word-sheets for you to complete. We have done most of the work for you. They are followed by the complete colour-coded answers, example sentences, and then finally gap-fill exercises.

Why do I need this?

You need better vocabulary. In this book, you'll be able to improve your vocabulary range, by learning the different forms of words, the synonyms and antonyms, and the COLLOCATION. This is so important to being able to perform better in tests, and when communicating with native speakers.

FOCUSED LISTENING

How did you learn your native language of Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, for example? You listened.... A LOT!

Why do you make the mistakes that you make in English? You do this because what you hear native speakers say is not actually what they say, but you repeat the sounds. Those sounds you hear are not complete. We swallow sounds, or cut them. Native speakers know what is missing and so can understand well. You, however, do not know, because you've listened to "bad" native English speaker language.

What is the answer? FOCUSED LISTENING!

You need to listen carefully; write what you think you hear; carefully check what you wrote; repeat the process 4 or 5 times. Then, copy the correct answer into the space provided, and listen again while reading the correct sentence that you copied.

This product includes 1 book with 192 sentences and 192 audio tracks to improve your English skills. The book has: 24 units based on common English topics.

You'll learn more grammar and vocabulary, naturally.

You'll improve your usage of pronunciation, speaking, and spelling. In fact, you'll improve ALL AREAS OF YOUR ENGLISH!

Each unit has:

8 sentences for you to listen to and practice

guided practice

a review section at the end of each unit.
